As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuhu ((アラビア語:السلام عليكم)) is a Muslim greeting. It translates to "the peace be upon you (plural)" It is a pointer that every Muslim meet each other with goodwill and peace. Muslims believe that when anyone greets another person with salam (''As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuhu''), he or she gets a reward from Allah. The greeting is regularly exchanged during Muslim lectures and sermons. The typical response to the greeting is "Wa-Alaikum-Salaam" ("and upon you Peace") or "Wa-Alaikumus-Salaam" ("and upon you the Peace"). ==Grammatical variants== The term in Arabic begins with the definite article ''al'' with the ''l'' assimilating to the following consonant ''s'' of Salaam.
